🎁 Having a thyroid patient on your gift shoppin

🎁 Having a thyroid patient on your gift shopping list can seem daunting, especially if they follow specific diets or avoid certain chemicals, to help manage their condition/s.

🎁 So here I am with a list of ideas for gift giving. I hope you find it useful!

(Pssst! If you’re a thyroid patient, you may want to pass this on to your friends and family!)

• There are many great thyroid books out there that can help your hypothyroid friend or family member feel more in touch with what’s going on in their body, as well as empower them. Check out my bestseller “Be Your Own Thyroid Advocate”!

• Many thyroid patients benefit from more comprehensive testing, and what else says ‘I support you living your best life’ than some tests they may otherwise not buy themselves?

• Yoga and mindfulness practices are often recommended to thyroid patients as a gentle form of exercise and stress reliever.

• Many of us experience cold intolerance. So items that promote keeping us warm can be lovely.

• Many thyroid patients find that Epsom salts in a bath or foot soak help their aching muscles and tired legs or feet. These simple salts can be a really thoughtful gift idea.

• A spa day, massage, pedicure etc. can all make really thoughtful gifts for someone who may experience thyroid fatigue, aches and pains and will really go that extra mile.

😣 Aches, pains, cramps, weakness and stiffness are all well-reported, especially in the legs.

❓Muscle and joint pain caused by hypothyroidism is known as hypothyroid myopathy and can occur all over the body, though most commonly in the legs, feet, arms, hands and back and can range from mild to severe.

❗️Things to check if this is you:

🤕 That thyroid levels are optimised

🤕 If a magnesium supplement or spray helps

🤕 If it’s a gluten issue - removing gluten from your diet for a few months will tell you

🤕 Whether you have low Vitamin D, iron, B12, folate etc.

🤕 If soaking in Epsom salts or massaging the area helps

🤕 For fluid retention

🤕 Whether acupuncture or other alternative therapies may help

🔘 Have you ever noticed that your neck seems enlarged or been told it ‘sticks out’?

🔘 Does it feel uncomfortable to swallow?

🔘 Do you struggle to swallow or feel a lump in your throat?

🔘 Do you ever feel hoarse?

🦋 It’s important we talk about how to check your neck in order to catch any early signs of something that needs attention.

🦋 You could have an enlarged thyroid gland, also called a goitre. It can be slight or very noticeable.

🦋 Nodules and cysts are also a possibility and should be taken seriously. Any issues like these should always be checked out by a doctor as soon as possible.

‼️ You can check your thyroid by following the below steps. ‼️

1. Stand in front of a mirror, removing anything that doesn’t give you a clear view of your neck, like jumpers and scarves.

2. Stretch your neck back, with your chin pointing towards the ceiling.

3. Feel where your thyroid is, and around it, very gently, to see if you can feel any enlargement, lumps or pain.

4. Closely look at your neck too, looking for any enlargement or lumpiness. Swallowing some water might help to highlight anything.

5. If you think you can feel something not quite right, such as any enlargement, tenderness or lumps, you should see a doctor as soon as possible to get their opinion.
