🧩 Symptoms of imbalanced blood sugar can include headaches, hangriness, feeling faint, dizzy, feeling hungry again quickly after eating, feeling tired, grouchy and irritable.

🩸 Research has shown that having Hashimoto’s puts us at an increased risk of blood sugar imbalances or glycemic impairments and this then places extra stress on our adrenals, which isn’t helpful.

🩸The glycemic index is a measurement of how quickly we burn food, and simple carbohydrates such as refined white sugar, refined flour, white rice, white bread, semolina, potatoes and carrots all have a very quick burn rate.

🩸Because of this, when eaten, they can cause a spike in our blood sugar, followed by a crash soon after.

🥘 This is where more protein-rich diets can be better for us.

🐠 Fat and protein have a slower burn rate. They are absorbed more slowly and do not raise blood sugar levels as quickly as simple carbs do. They also keep us fuller for longer.

🫒 Healthy fats play a big role in our mental health and moods, brain function, energy levels, weight management and hormonal health.

❓I ensure I consume enough protein in every meal and snack, in order to keep my blood sugar levels balanced and promote ongoing, stable energy levels.

🥣 Good sources of protein can include meats, cheese, eggs, nuts, seeds, yoghurts, beans and legumes.

🥑 Good sources of fat include olive oil, sesame oil, avocados, olives, nuts, seeds, peanut butter, flaxseed, salmon, chia seeds, eggs and seed butter.

❓We can aim to eat every two to three hours to keep blood sugar levels balanced and adrenals functioning happy.

❓Going long times without food, such as fasting, can place extra stress on the adrenal glands. So don’t skip breakfast either!

❗️Making these changes to my diet have brought my Hashimoto’s in to remission, improved fatigue, brain fog and heart palpitations. I just feel SO much better eating this way. It’s been an important piece of my thyroid jigsaw puzzle.

🎄However, once I developed autoimmune hypothyroidism, and during the time it took for me to get it better managed, I learned some key lessons in surviving the festive season with my thyroid condition so that I could still enjoy it without becoming unwell.

I am often asked what supps I take.

Let’s make some things clear:

🦋There ARE certain supps that can help thyroid patients. This is by supporting thyroid function, optimal hormone levels, addressing coexisting low vitamin / mineral levels, improving or supporting gut health, and addressing bothersome symptoms.

🦋I always recommend consulting your doctor or pharmacist before starting any new supps and I always suggest testing levels before taking anything. Example: taking too much iron can be dangerous. So test your levels beforehand.

🦋We are often advised against multivitamins as the amount of each vitamin included is usually very small and doesn’t do an awful lot. Or vitamins included in a multivitamin may cancel each other out. So we’re advised to pick a few to focus on supplementing higher quality instead.

🦋Remember that this post is just an example of 1 thyroid patient’s current regimen. And it changes often. They’re not intended for lifetime use; they should be reviewed continually to reflect what your current needs are.

My current supplement regimen is:

💊2000mg of Vitamin c
💊200ug Selenium
💊100mg Iron bisglycinate
💊4000iu Vitamin D3
💊100ug K2
💊Probiotic - 100 billion
💊Omega 3 and EPA 2000mg
💊20mg Zinc

I probably take them about 4 or 5 days a week. I don’t always remember when I’m overwhelmed by parenting and general life 🙈

In the past, it didn’t include all of these, but instead included things like magnesium, B vitamins, digestive enzymes etc. because that’s what my body needed at THAT time.

It may seem like a lot of supps to other people but it’s what my body needs at the moment. And I reassess often.

My current routine has me feeling very well and Hashimoto’s in remission.

It is always important to revisit what you’re taking often. (What I take won’t necessarily be what you need. We’re all individual and you shouldn’t assume you need everything I do. Please work with your own test results and a medical professional to find out what YOU need. This is just an example of what my body needs based on my levels.)
