🫣 A doctor actually said this one to me when I visited him time and time again, complaining of my initial thyroid medication not helping at all.

😩 I was only gaining more symptoms and feeling worse as time went on, but he didn’t believe me.

😩 He insisted that my symptoms had ‘no REAL cause’ and suggested I take antidepressants for the mental health issues so obviously causing them instead.

🫣 Needless to say, I haven’t seen that doctor since, as I was so frustrated with his remark, that I found another doctor who DID listen to me and has moved me to a thyroid medication that works for me. Because the symptoms really weren’t in my head. 😉

🫣 Unless you are in our shoes, you cannot make a call on what is and isn’t real. Thyroid patients are frequently told they’re hypochondriacs, overdramatic or imagining things.

If you’re lucky enough to have found a type of exercise that helps you feel GOOD as a thyroid patient, share what it is below so we can all learn from others’ experiences! 🤗

For me:

🧘‍♀️ Yoga
🚶‍♀️ Walking
💃 Dancing
🏊‍♀️ Swimming

So many thyroid patients struggle with exercise due to low stamina, heavy fatigue, muscle pain and exercise causing flare ups.

It can be helpful to explore whether other types of exercise help us to keep healthy without aggravating our chronic illness. 👍🏻

🫠 I still sometimes catch myself beating myself up for not doing as much of a workout or not exercising as much as I had wanted to that day.

❗️The thing is, your body won’t always be able to do exactly the same thing every single day. There are so many factors that can change day to day.

❓I know that for me, how much sleep I got the night before, how well nutritiously I have eaten that day, how mentally drained I feel, what other to-do’s I have to get done and basically just what my thyroid condition is like that day ALL play a part.

❗️Some weeks I do more and some weeks I do less. Because I listen to my body and do what it will safely be able to do.

❗️Give yourself some flexibility and respect your body enough to know when to listen to it and follow its lead. Exercising with thyroid issues can be hard enough as it is.

❓The other night for example, I just didn’t feel up to yoga at all but as I hadn’t done it in a week I still got on the yoga mat but chose to do a gentler session compare to the week before.

❗️I am definitely not the fittest or most exercise focussed person here on Instagram, and I am definitely a thyroid patient who carries a little more weight since I’ve had it, but I do try my best to fit exercise into my every day in a realistic way. And most importantly, in a way that does not make my health condition worse.

❗️ And can I just add: parenting with a chronic illness is a whole other level of exhaustion too!
