💙 Low thyroid hormone levels can cause us to feel low in mood, depressed and anxious.

💙 My second pregnancy was hard. Really hard. Thyroid levels tricky to keep stable for the first six months, I was fatigued and walking around in a fog a lot of the time.

Muscle and joint pain with thyroid conditions. Ouch 😣

Aches, pains, cramps, weakness and stiffness are all well-reported, especially in the legs.

Muscle and joint pain caused by hypothyroidism is known as hypothyroid myopathy and can occur all over the body, though most commonly in the legs, feet, arms, hands and back and can range from mild to severe.

Things to check if this is you:

🤕 That thyroid levels are optimised
🤕 If a magnesium supplement or spray helps
🤕 If it’s a gluten issue - removing gluten from your diet for a few months will tell you
🤕 Whether you have low Vitamin D, iron, B12, folate etc.
🤕 If soaking in Epsom salts or massaging the area helps
🤕 For fluid retention
🤕 Whether acupuncture or other alternative therapies may help

Hypothyroidism? Hashimoto’s?

📢 Not everyone with these thyroid conditions will experience them in the same way.

📢 Not only do different people experience different symptoms, but the severity of these symptoms can vary too.

📢 Some people take their medication daily and feel fine.

📢 Some take their medication daily and still feel hugely unwell. Some feel a little better but not loads.

📢 For some people, it can leave them bed-bound, in excruciating muscle pain, unexplainably fatigued, depressed and more.

I’ve been on both sides. Almost signed off from work due to the heavy fatigue, depression, muscle pain and more, which left me incredibly ill from hypothyroidism, I was in pieces.

I’m not exaggerating when I say that at one point I couldn’t get up the stairs in my house unaided due to this condition. I was bed-bound for days at a time, unable to move apart from using the toilet in the next room.

Nowadays, I am doing well in terms of my health but it’s taken a lot to get here. I work, I have two children under 3 years old, I function without my thyroid condition getting in the way for the most part and my mental health is the best it’s been in a long time. But I know how bad it can be. I remember it well.

Everyone is individual and so is their individual experience. Everyone’s experience is valid. YOU are valid.
