This is part five of my selection of songs that motivate, inspire, uplift or otherwise connect with me on tough health days. You can see part one herepart two herepart three here and part four here

I find music is the best remedy for when I’m feeling low, fed up, defeated or frustrated, especially during thyroid flare up periods, so I’m going to share my favourites for when I feel down, defeated, frustrated or otherwise struggling. I hope you like them too.

You can find the playlist on my YouTube channel here.

So here are my next ten songs, numbers 41 to 50.

41. Empire by Nina Nesbitt

Some female empowerment to remind us that we can achieve whatever we want – whether that’s good health or a better life.

I’m gonna take it for what it’s worth
Put in the hours ’til I have learned it
Show everybody what I deserve, oh
Gonna build an empire, empire

42. All My Friends by BUSTED

I really like songs that get me reflecting on life. The lyrics below especially remind me that life is always moving and changing but what’s important is embracing those changes and accepting especially that we change with age and time. But it doesn’t affect our ability to still achieve whatever it is we want. Whether it’s better health or something else.

We’re not old
But we’re not as young as we used to be
Halfway to obscurity
But we feel fine
We got told
That our dreams would not amount to much
But maybe I believe in us
And we’ll be fine

43. Givin’ Up by Emarosa

As well as the infectious beat to this song, I find meaning in the lyrics on my tough thyroid days when I do come close to feeling like I may’s well just give up! However, it interestingly uplifts me and helps me see through those temporary dips.

I feel like losing at the end of the day
When I’m looking so sad
…And it makes me so mad
I’m losing what I’m doing
And I don’t think I like living this way
…Tell me it’s enough
I’m thinking that it’s enough
And I don’t know what else I can do
And I could give it up
I’m thinking of giving up

44. Girl on Fire by Alicia Keys

This song is enough to make you feel like you can tackle whatever you need to today. Tough thyroid day or whatever else.

45. It Happens by BUSTED

It’s important to remember that sometimes, things just happen. And often, they happen for a reason.

Health conditions such as hypothyroidism may happen to teach us something, make us take stock of our lives, reevaluate where we’re spending our energy or simply as a result of taking on too much. It happens. Now move forward.

46. Hey Look Ma, I Made It by Panic! At The Disco

This song always gets me moving around the house and belting out that ‘Hey look ma, I made it!’ hook. It’s hard to not feel pumped, motivated and accomplished after this song.

47. Crazy Little Thing Called Love by Queen

Stick this on and have a bit of a dance.

48. Catch Fire by 5 Seconds of Summer

All my life I’ve been waiting for moments to come
When I catch fire and watch over you like the sun
I will fight to fix up and get things right
I can’t change the world but maybe I’ll change your mind

This one calls out to me as someone who advocates for thyroid patients. I might not be able to change the world exactly, but I can change peoples’ minds on what exactly hypothyroidism is and the issues we face as patients.

49. We Are The Champions by Queen

Is there a more iconic song?

50. Zero by Imagine Dragons

Imagine Dragons said themselves that this song is about ‘functional depression’.

I find it hard to say the things I want to say the most
Find a little bit of steady as I get close
Find a balance in the middle of the chaos

With the catchy chorus and boppy beat, it’s one to get stuck in your head and give you something to relate to on those tough days/tough times with hypothyroidism.

  1. Oooo some great choices! Hadn’t thought about Busted in years, though I was never a fan. I still quite like listening to old Panic at the Disco! stuff though, always gets me feeling a little brighter! 😊

  2. Definitely Queen…… always a great band to blast on. ‘Crazy Little Thing Called Love’ is fab for a dance workout😉
